24-07-01: There's a Weyr in there
New weyrs are definitely worth inspection from old friends -- like W'yn
You come down the ramp from Llysereth's ledge.
Zymanth glides down and backwings to land nearby.
W'yn takes hold of the straps to leaver himself over to one side, then with arms in the air he slides down the front quaters to land with a 'thud' on the ground, tumbling a step forward before he is steady on his feet.
W'yn slips down from Zymanth and sends the bronze winging back to his ledge to sun. He is thinking of Klah for his head. Looking round though before heading for the cavern he spots Lydiere and waves.
Lydiere bounds--literally bounds, scarily enough--down the ramp from her ledge, almost tripping over a loose stone on the way down. "W'yn!" she greets, beaming towards her clutchmate. "How is?"
W'yn almost wants to hold his head at such callings but laughs all the same. "Heya! Going well thanks..you?" he walks forwards then to close the distance as Lyidere bounds.
Lydiere comes to a halting stop at the point where ramp turns into bowl, a rueful smile crossing her lips as she admits, "Going fine, too. Been enjoying graduated life?"
W'yn waves his hand as if to say no but then a broad grin crosses his face. "How can I not! Wonderful to get out of those Barracks!!" Pointing up to the ledge he adds. "Strange haveing so much space though..as in Zymanth having space and me..me not having to be crushed everynow and then.."
Lydiere glances back up the ramp towards Llysereth's ledge, and agrees; "Oh, I know. So much space--more than I've ever had in my whole life, in fact. Not sure what I'm going to do with it all. Llysereth quite delights in having a ledge of her own, from where she can watch everything, just about without being seen."
W'yn looks round and is surprised to note that he cant see the queen. Looking back to Lyidere then he chuckles. "Well, I dont know about you..I was heading for some Klah, would you join me?" he asks lightly.
"Klah," repeats Lydiere, hesitating a moment. She promptly nods, agreeing, "Make that cider, and I'm there. Haven't much liked klah in turns--I think it was the nasty stuff they left in the barracks that did it."
W'yn turns towards the cavern, offering Lydiere his arm though he laughs and nods. "Im sure it was the bottoms of any pots that they left us, I think we could make it cider.." though he winces and adds. "Maybe I should make mine un-sweetened Klah.."
Lydiere swings her arm through W'yn's with a gleeful chuckle, noting, "I think it should be unsweetened for the both of us--I'm almost giddy, and it's scaring me." A wink follows, as she strides towards the serving table, peering about for the cider jugs.
W'yn leads Lydiere to a table near the heath, well away from the weyrlings table and chuckling himself adds. "Allow me.." After a few moments he returns, Klah for himself Cider for you and a few nibbles, rolls etc. As he places them down and takes a seat he adds. "I never could resist the fresh rolls..So" popping one in his mouth then and swallowing he asks. "Not working you too hard now are they?"
Lydiere laughs, settling into her seat--one leg placed up on an empty chair nearby. "Such a gentleman," she admires, winking cheerfully, "Such manners!" Which doesn't stop her from leaning forward to pick up her cider, and a roll, both of which are inhaled at a moderate speed. "Mmm. Me, either; we never really got much fresh food out at sea. Working me to hard? I don't think they'd be able to!" Lazy Lyddie.
W'yn raises his glass to the complement, sloshing a little down the side of the mug, spoiling the image and making himself chuckle. "I try.." and before anyone else can add it he adds. "very trying.." Cuious then he looks over to the hearth. "I knew I should have looked for fishrolls.." he teases lightly before adding. "I think we should complain for future Weyrlings..better food means better service!" Drinking then he grins at his own slogan..sad.
Lydiere giggles--thankfully, just *after* she swallows, rather than before--and comments, "You better believe it!" Taking another mouthful of bread, she wrinkles her nose, attempting to make some comment with her mouth full. Swallowing, she opines, more clearly, "Ew! Fish is good. Fish rolls is bad. It must be a combination thing." She laughs again, adding, "Maybe, maybe."
W'yn cant say he has ever tried fresh fish, and states so. "Only ever had the rolls..though Im a Wherry man me! Meat and gravey!" he grins looking around for a moment adding. "And I cant wait for later servings when I can get my hands on the better than scraps.."
Lydiere raises her eyebrows long and hard. "You haven't? Shards, you're missing out on something good. Imagine, living at Ista, and not eating fish." Her head shakes back and forth, finger waggling, "I command you to do it, sometime. It's not perhaps as...meaty as wherry, but still."
W'yn is in a teasing mood with this and bobs his head lightly adding. "How could i refuse when the Weyrwoman commands.." Looking over to the hearth then and scanning he grins. "oh but look..no..fish!" He should not really sound so happy about that but does and then grins. "no no, I will try it..what do you recomend the best to try?"
Lydiere raises both hands in disgust, "You lot really like to rub it in, don't you?" Weyrwoman, bah. She glances over at the hearth, agreeing, "No fish. It's just your luck, this time. But yes, you will try it. Um, hmm. Well, it's really best cooked on the beach, in a big pit, with hot stones. But...Well, any is good."
W'yn smiles and lightly pokes you on the shoulder. "Course we do..we dont get the chance very often.." meaning with many other Weyrwomen and such. He is teasing though but suddenly gets an idea. "Ok, how about Ill try some fish if we can organise a beach party? some relaxation time for us new Riders?" he rubs his chin thinking. "Something informal..ya know!" he adds gulping abit more of his Klah.
Lydiere pokes back, perhaps slightly harder, but not roughly. "Hmph. Go find Lymera, do it to her. She'll take it better, I bet." She winks, although she adds, "It's not fair, being different. Y'all start to treat me strange, and I'll clobber you, I tell you." She pauses, face lighting up--"Ooh, I like that. Could be a lot of fun."
This time W'yn leaves his head on your shoulder for a moment and smiles before poking back. "your still Lydie.." He shrug and chuckles. "And it would be no fun if we all had to bow and be polite to you all the time.." He is in a light mood. Popping another roll into his mouth he smiles, munching for a moment he shudders. "I dont think I could do it to Lymera..but!..might give it a try one day..so! This beach party..think people will be interested?" I dont know..a rider for a day and he is already trying to find light reliefe.
Lydiere gives a soft laugh, commenting quietly, between sips and bites, "I'm glad. I'd hate not to be." A further nod, and she comments, "That'd kill me, if you did that. I'm still me, just the same as the rest of you." She laughs, admitting, "I don't think I could do it to Lymera, either. She's--well. I think so; people always like a party. Look at what happened at graduation!" Drunken riders, debauchery, the whole bit.
W'yn winces and rubs his head remembering. Cocking his head slightly he nods. "YOu dont have to say about Lymere she's---" Seems neither of them are going to say it but he's sure their both thinking the same thing. "Ahh, though it will still make me chuckle to see residents, candidates and someday Weyrlings saluting you and such.." He smiles at this adding. "And then thier faces when I shout 'oi! you..get your ass over here I need a hand!" A few of the people milling around the cavern do look over at this, so W'yn ducks his head.
"Yes. She's like that." That's enough said, at least for Lydiere, who takes another bite of roll--over filling her mouth so that her cheeks fill out, and she looks positively strange. Swallowing, which takes some time, she wrinkles her nose. "Faranth's hair headknobs, that's not something to look forward to. Eh, they may well do it to you, too; you're a bronzerider after all." The milling people get a bright smile, as the young Junior Weyrwoman returns the call with, minus a few obsenities, "Hold your runners. Stick 'em where the sun--" she trails off, getting a nasty look from an older brownrider, who earns a stuck out tongue.
W'yn winces as he thinks about himself at the graduation. Shaking his head then he chuckles. "Lymera is---" Seems their both thinking similar but not going to say. Smiling then in a rather cheeky way he adds. "Others might you know, candidates and onday Weyrlings, some residents, but I cant wait to see their faces when I shout 'Oi you, get your ass over here and help!" this gets him some rather odd looks from people milling around the cavern, so he ducks his head but giggles.
W'yn grins broadly and holds back the urge to wave to the brownrider, though the tongue was as good an answer. Cocking his head slightly and chuckling he thinks. "not as much though surley..i mean.." he grins then adding. "Well not once they see that lump, zymanth, try and land.." A snort is heard from outside, distant but there all the same.
Lydiere comments, indicating the bowl, "You take him to the holders some time, and see what happens. You may well be sir'd until you got nuts, even in this day and age. It's horribly depressing."
W'yn frowns at this, and is silent, only because his mouth now has rolls being munched. Once he finally clears his mouth and whipes the crumbs from the corner of his lips he nods. "Ive heard some of the others talk about that..me! Sir!!" he adds then grinning.
Lydiere sets down her empty cider mug, nodding, "Horribly scary idea, isn't it? You'll do well, I'll bet."
W'yn raises an eyebrow and chuckles. "now you stop teasing eh!" looking about the cavern then he smiles. "Dont you think this place looks smaller?" An odd question as it obviously has not chnaged size. "Maybe less daunting instead?"
"Aww, but it's fun!" So insists Lydiere with a laugh, eyeing the bread rolls, but leaving them in peace. "Smaller? No, not really." She lets her hands rest within her lap, considering, "P'rhaps it's just us getting older, and stuff. More mature. And, yeah, less daunted."
W'yn once again raises an eyebrow. "Maturer eh?" His face beings to grow into a broad smile then as he shakes his head. "I really dont think thats it.." He's thinking of parties again, yuo can tell!
Lydiere sticks out her tongue. "There are different ways of being mature. Surely you feel older than you did, almost two turns ago?"
W'yn looks down to himself for a moment before smiling and nodding. "your right you know, It is strange how it slowly changes.." he runs his fingers though his hair before chuckling and adding. "Im not so runt like!" Triumph rules.
Lydiere stretches, shifting her shoulders a little as she gives a slow nod. "You're not. And I think I'm less...impetuous." Although probably still not all that dependable. "Apparently, people change in weyrlinghood. A lot. Or so Lyndie told me. And Lyiene."
W'yn looks to you for a moment, a curious expression on his face before he nods and smiles. "Id say more confident from when we first all stood on the sands.." but then hadnt everyone being a nerouvs wreck. Teasing once more then, but in a light tone he adds. "Your not so sad..I mean I was worried about you for ages the amount of time you would spend on your own and things.." He himself thinks for a moment adding. "I think ive got more light hearted..if you know what I mean?"
Lydiere gives a low chuckle, nodding, "Definitely more confident--at least, most of us. I think I was over confident. Perhaps I'm less so, now?" Still not perfect, now; nowhere near. "I think that was the big thing, for me. Not having freedom, independance, and personal choice. It tempered me. I s'pose." She nods, rapidly, "I know what you mean."
W'yn looks around then and grins. "And now look Lyd..the skies the limit for ya..well only paperwork to stop you.." he smiles lightly eating one of the few remaning meat rolls. He is not sure about the confidence thing so does not continue on that one but adds. "Confidence is a good thing.."
"You, too," points out the woman, shifting within her seat slightly. "Paperwork. Ugh. Y'think I can try and get out of that?" She winks, stretching out her fingers in front of her. "Confidence is a good thing, agreed."
W'yn chuckles and leans back in his seat, half stetching in reply to the action done by Lydiere. Looking around then he adds. "I would not have a clue about paper work! I really wouldnt! I mean..sweeps, search and rescue..Zymanth can help me out and I kinda sit there.." he chuckles adding. "Sitting there is still hard work ya know!"
Lydiere raises one finger to her mouth, and chews upon the nail. Between bites, words come, "You hoping for Search and Rescue, then? R'yn's fairly passionate about that, or so he says." She rolls her eyes, adding, "And you think I do? Faranth--I barely have a legible hand." Actually, she doesn't have a legible hand. "Oh, sitting there. Yes. Very hard work. Having young women swoon over you. Equally hard."
W'yn watches you being to bite your nails and thinks about swatting your hand away at the funny sound that kinda makes you wince. He doesnt though because he blinks. "Swoon eh?" Shaking his head he chuckles. "I cant see anyone swooning.." he himsef winks then adding. "Yeah, Zymanth seems to have the gift of the air but gets a little board just carrying things here and there..Id like to look into it." he rememvers the flights the two took and the team they made.
Lydiere eventually pulls her hand away all the same; her nails are hopelessly knawed up, sadly enough. "Y'never know. When you've rescued a damsel in distress, upon that fine lifemate of yours--who knows what'll happen!" She nods, adding, "I can see what you mean. Frankly, I'd get bored carrying things from here to there. It'd be fun, search and rescue."
W'yn laughs and chuckles. "Show me the way to the damsels!!" He remembers this time to keep his voice down before sighing. "I remember you saying you were not allowed to do Search and Rescue..is that right?"
Lydiere holds back mirth with much restraint; admirable. "I think they'll be hopeless at evading your charms. Or something." She shrugs her shoulders, leaning back within her chair. "I don't think I can. We goldriders are supposed to be stuck at the radios, doing communication type stuff."
W'yn sticks his tongue out and winces. "Esh..rough!" Then he smiles slightly and adds. "Well, if were ever out and about, listen for some bad jokes eh!?" He grins and then sits up straight. "Charms? hmm I like that idea!" he grins.
Lydiere groans good naturedly, "I'll listen. And cringe."
W'yn pretends to humf for a moment but his shoulders shaking with mirth show that he is chuckling. "They are /not/ that bad..ok so they are!" he grins then and looks about. "So, what are your plans for now? I mean the rest of this day?"
"Yes," says Lydiere, quiet seriously. "They are." And then she, too, shows her mirth, laughing gruffly. "Plans? Oh, not many. I'm hoping to spend the afternoon with Keidire, but I may end up having to do things. It all depends. And you?"
W'yn taps his chin for a moment and then shrugs. "Sorting out part of my Weyr might be a good idea..perhaps going and spending a few marks Ive saved on a rug.." Shrugging then he chuckles. "Cant you tell I dont know..I dont have a lesson or anything!"
Lydiere wrinkles her nose. "No one's used my weyr in turns and turns, so there's dust and dirt everywhere. I hate cleaning." Llysereth is enough to clean for any person. "A rug? That'd be nice. Hey--if you ask for Ailyne, at the Weaver Hall, she'll get you a special price or something. She's my sister. Half-sister." Her lips spread; "Nice, not to have lessons."
W'yn looks surprised and ohs. "Didnt know you had a sister..yeah! maybe We could go over? Ill help you clean your Weyr then.." he adds thinking this might give some free time for his friend. Looking down to the last roll he points at it. "you want that?"
Lydiere rolls her eyes, and looks, for a moment, pained. "I've two sisters. And four brothers. All half-siblings, and all younger." At least she didn't have to live with most of them. "That'd be fun! I have to torture her over the torture trap she sent me to wear at graduation. Nasty thing." She glances at the roll, and shakes her head. "No, you take it."
W'yn does not do what a gentleman should and offer it again, on no he takes it and pops it right in. "When are you free?" he asks and then laughing adds on the end. "*ahem*..to travel to Weaver? Ive never been before.."
Lydiere watches W'yn eat with a rueful smile, then shrugs, "Say, sometime this afternoon? And, by the way, there's no need to help me, with my weyr. I'd feel bad. Why don't I have Llysereth call Zymanth, when I'm free?"
W'yn shrugs as he is sure lydiere knows the offer is always there. "Sure! Sounds like a good afternoons trip." Streching then he smiles. "you know it is a shame you cant do Search and Rescue..Llysereth and Zymanth flew well.." he winks at this adding. "please though..dont get him excited..hell bug you all for days!"
Lydiere tilts her head into an affirming agreement. "Definitely. It's nice, down by the Weaver Hall. Llysereth loves the different oceans." She spreads her lips into a smile, adding, "It is, a bit. They did--and I'm sure they will, even if it's only in fun."
W'yn grins and chuckles. "And if there is oceans, hell have a brilliant time!" Frowning then he hmms for a moment. "Lydi..what wing are you in?" He suddenly remembered one thing he did have to do today.
Lydiere grins. "That's one thing they're very similar in, isn't it? Llysereth loves the ocean--any open space, really." She pauses, then shrugs, "I suppose I'm still in Falcon, although when Lymera gets a chance, she'll poke me into the Queens wing. Why?"
W'yn clicks his fingers and nods. "yeah, thats right.." Chuckling he nods. "I think I got my wires crossed, I saw M'kan with Phoenix knots on, and I wondered If we were supposed to be taken to wings now.." Shrugging slightly he smiles. "You know..at this time were all kind of at a loose end arnt we.."
Lydiere raises an eyebrow, and shrugs. "I think you'll be put into a wing when your wingleader finds you. I mean, I think. I don't know."
ahh more ammo to tease with. "you dont know? your Weyrwoman and you dont know?" he smiles broadly and sticks his tongue out before nodding. "Hope it happens soon, you know? to put a little routine to the day.." What is he saying, suddenly its as though he has a change of plan and adds. "not that I dont mind having afternoons to do one thing and morening to go somewhere else.."
Lydiere sticks her tongue back out in response. "Bite your tongue, Bronzie," states she, giggling. "Yeah, I know what you mean. It's sort of being at a loose end, or something. Nice to have time, except I'm not sure what to do with it--except clean."
W'yn grins broadly and slowly retracting his tongue nods. "Right you are goldie!" Such a nice ring to it that. "I am really beginning to hate cleaning, I mean its nice to clean my own place and not someones on a chore but..but it brings back memory of like latrine duty!!" he shudders and grins adding. "Or worse..kitchen cleaning!"
Lydiere groans at a mere mention of kitchen cleaning, let along latrines. "Ugh. I'm glad our days of those chores are over; at least this cleaning is for us. I'm sure I'll never fill all this space, though. It's *massive*."
W'yn wonders, a look of curiousity upon his face. "Can I have a nosy?" He knows it would not mormally be polite, but she wanted him to be normal right? and he is a nosy git!
Lydiere nods, smiling, "If you'd like. It's not much, though, remember that."
W'yn rises and once again offers his arm. "lead the way then!" He smiles broadly before adding. "And i wont tell anyone of the men you have hidden in there.." He looks about and nods a smile to the brownrider who had been listening before adding. "Riders!"
Lydiere restrains giggles, pouting, "You won't? Oh, but I want *everyone* to gossip about me and my--" harem. Pillowcraft. Whatever. Winking towards the brownrider, she turns to lead the way out.
[Travel Spam Deleted]
W'yn wanders in and look about. "Your right about the dust and the space..its huge!" He turns back to Lydiere and smiles. "We no know where to hold the party if its raining.."
Lydiere leans up against a dusty--rather dank, even--wall, laughing. "Now there's an idea. We'll have to do that, definitely! I'm always going to have the space." She winks, adding, "I feel all lost in here, honestly."
W'yn shakes his head. "never, I mean once you have the gentlemen falling for your charm youll never be alone in here.." Does that saying ring any bells. With that he chuckles and steps further into the room. "Llyserenth has a good sized sleeping area, I bet she is feeling much better for the space..I know Zy is.."
Lydiere laughs, nudging at a ball of fluff upon the floor. "Well, there's that. And it's such easy access, being on the ground...We'll see." She winks; not entirely joking, after all. "As long as Llysereth can get used to sharing me, of course." She nods, watching W'yn as he moves. "Oh, she is. She liked the barracks, but she didn't too. This is much better."
W'yn holds his arms out either side and spins round once slowly. "Ahh see this is what I like.." his fingers not touching anything. Turning back to Lydiere, and catching some fluff roll slightly he adds. "I was so worried that once we were in different places that we would always be like..sepereate..I mean all of us! but as it is each day I have happily spent time with different clutchmates."
Lydiere restrains giggles, although not very well, head nodding rapidly. "I've done that myself, once or twice." She pauses, almost as if hiding her sin, then blurts out, "Keid started it, though." Pausing, the rider nods, "I know. I worried about that, too. But it looks like it'll be good. Fine."
W'yn chuckles and smiles. "Thats right..blame the antics on a kid!" he smiles all the same before ohhing. "You know, there is room enough here to make space for him.." he adds wondering about this. he really really is a nosy git!
Lydiere glances about once more, at the space, and nods. "There is. I've told him he can have a space in here, of his own. But he's off with his fostermother, a lot--she's handfasted to the captain of my ship, now, see. So we'll see."
W'yn cocks his head and chuckles. "You do lead a tangled web dont you.." smiling though he adds. "At least with you telling him that he knows he can spend time with you.." he offers with a smile, is he trying to comfort for some reason.
"Tangled web?" repeats Lydiere, evidently at odds with the saying for a moment. Then, "Oh. Yes. I suppose so. It's all very complex--never have children before you Impress." She pauses, then wrinkles her nose. "Maybe that wasn't the best of advice to give. Ne'er mind. And yeah, at least there's that."
W'yn smiles and chuckles. "no chance of that now really.." him being impressed and with no hidden kids of any kind. "Familyes are bad enough on their own.." we his is anyhow. Sighing then but with a broad smile he looks about. "Well, the offer is still there..if have to put me though wearing a pinny again!" he grins.
Lydiere sticks out her tongue. "I know, I know. It was the thought that counted, right?" The junior weyrwoman rolls her eyes, agreeing, "Families can be the pits. Mine--are not being very sweet and kind." She wrinkles her nose, adding, "Right. Thanks. I suppose I should get to work."
W'yn holds up his hand and smiles. "That was not a prod to make you work.." he chuckles at this before loweing slowly to be serious. "Ahh mine saw the bronze and sent a letter asking if the Weyr was mad." W'yn actually giggles at this point adding. "Their runners were never very smart..Saw me with a Bronze and gave the message to me..never got to R'yn."
Lydiere glances about--"No, but it worked, anyway. I've a stack to do, if I ever want real visitors in here." She raises an eyebrow, adding, "Oh?"
W'yn looks about and smiles. "Youve got the experience..maybe that is why they do give us such chores.." going back then to the 'oh' he nods. "I was the runt of our family, could never do anything right..Ran to Igen and got a job, then got searched..etc.." he pauses to breath and cross his arms, leaning on a wall and goes on. "They are out in the middle of a forrest and I know they didnt know i had impressed..as soon as I had the chance I htought id go back and see them..bad idea..funny reaction though..the message asked what the weyr thought they were doing giving me a bronze.."
Lydiere's head shakes. "That's horrible. Your family doesn't sound nice--not that I'm insulting them, since you're part of them, or anything. Stil." She moves to pick up a broom; it was left lying on the floor, obviously in disgust.
