You fly toward the beach of the Weyr Cove below.
+*> Jachin chuckles, overhearing Kellah. "Suriath is a strange one. Did you know he could sing? That's how I got nabbed." He sucks meat out of a claw, lickign buttery fingers, and sighs. "Whoever of you caught these, I have to say you nabbed some of the tastiest."
+*> In the northern sky, Suriath flies toward the ocean of the Weyr Cove below.
+*> In the ocean, Suriath flies over from the sky above.
+*> In the ocean, Kayjay jumps down off of Suriath, landing smoothly as her lifemate croons.
+*> In the ocean, Kayjay swims out towards the sandy beach.
+*> Kayjay swims out of the warm waters of the ocean.
+*> Niare takes the morsel from A'den with a brief smile. After devouring it, she nods. "Just like that one."
+*> Kelli hrmmhs. "Well, I caught some of them. So I'll take part of the compliment." He shifts to crack his own against a stone, breaking the shell open with his fingers and peeling hungrily at the meat within. "Sing? Suriath sings?" He blinks at Jachin. "I've heard of firelizards singing, but not dragons."
+*> Iesath lands upon the sands with a flurry of grainy breeze--wings flapping aimlessly as if only to make sure that an even bigger cloud of sand is made. Aura waves a hand in greeting--noting the large group, and calls, "Evening!"
Your hand once again traces Iesath's smooth neckridges, as you slip down her side, guiding yourself with her straps and forelimb. Below, you touch her again, her soft whuff filled with adoration towards you.
Kayjay looks behind her as she drips up out of the ocean. "Suriath! I said the beach, not the water. I suppose you think you are funny?:
In the ocean, Suriath warbles brightly.
Eireann picks apart her spiderclaw with ease, then starts eating little bits of it at a time. "Mm.. Your loss then Mel." she murmurs--meaning about the refusal of a spiderclaw. "Are the kitchens busy?" A glance goes over to Kayjay, and she raises her brows up in faint amusement.
Kellah smiles and waves to Kayjay. "Hey Kayjay!" She calls to the arriving brownrider. She giggles softly. "Did he think you needed a bath?"
Jachin looks up in time to see Kayjay drag her wet self onto the beach, not laughing only because his mouth is full. He chews, swallows, and grins, however. "He does sing....ask Kayjay, since she's here...a bit wet, but here." He waves after licking his fingers once again, then cuts off a piece of baked tuber. "Tell Kelli, Kayjay, how sweet Suriath's voice is. Maybe he'll give us a sample?"
Meleri nods her head. "About like normal." She looks over at Kayjay and giggles.
"Not *more* dragon singing," comments Auralia with a rueful grimace, padding across the sand towards the groups of people, whilst Iesath warbles brightly, as if to prove some obscure point. "Aie, Kayjay, Iesath does that all the time. Water's nice though, especially in the heat."
Kayjay drips and then wanders over to Jachin. "Watch it. I'll drip all over you." She grabs a nearby towel and dries her hair, ignoring her lifemate who comes out of the water as well. The brown literally chuckles as he approaches.
A'den picks out another bit of spiderclaw and leans forward again to feed it to Niare with a faint grin. "Evening," he greets Kayjay and Auralia as they arrive, dripping or not.
Meleri giggles more at Kayjay's threat to Jachin and sits back upright smiling.
Niare looks over at Jachin. "Have you heard Lisanth 'sing'? If you ask nicely, I might be able to persuade her to give you a sample," she says, with something of humor in her tone. Then she sees the food A'den's offering and she takes that from him.
Kayjay mock glares at Mereli. "I have a wet braid and I am not afraid to use it on you, either."
"Evening." Eireann directs towards Kayjay as comes dripping out of the water, and a similar greeting is sent toward Auralia. She cracks open her second spiderclaw, and starts picking the meat out of the shell. "I haven't heard /any/ dragon sing yet." she comments with a glance to Niare and Jachin. "Oh Mel, look out." she leans across to nudge her friend with a quiet giggle.
Kelli looks at Niaer, then at Jachin, eyebrows arching up into his hair. "I suppose I shouldn't ask..." he says. He does, however: "She sings?"
Jachin grins up at Kayjay. "Drip if you like...it's only water, you know. Just try not to get it on the food, okay?" Precious stuff, food. Aurelia gets a chuckle for her comment, and he shrugs, picking meat out of another claw. "I like his singing." He smiles over at the brown. "It's nice. Except for that last bit. The loud part."
Auralia snickers, "Evil Kayjay, there." Nod is sent to A'den, then Eireann--who is given a grin, "I hard that you were searched. Congratulations. And trust me, dragon singing is not so brilliant, I promise."
Kelli looks at Niaer, then at Jachin, eyebrows arching up into his hair. "I suppose I shouldn't ask..." he says. He does, however: "She sings?" he asks Niare, picking at the spiderclaw meat and indicating the pot to the newly-arrived.
Meleri grins over at Kayjay still giggling softly. "That would be horrible." She says softly mock grimicing.
Suriath good naturedly whuffles Jachin then nudges his lifemate gently. Gently for him. It almost sends her sprawling in the sand. Kayjay giggles and leans against the brown's hide. "Well, your heat can at least dry me off then."
Kayjay chuckles. "No, what would be horrible is, if I were to sing along with Suriath. Our singing duets are best left to early sweeps."
Meleri looks over at Kayjay and laughs. "Probably not as horrible as if I did." She grins as she speaks quietly.
"Can't you sing?" Eireann sends a glance Kayjay-wards, then Meleri. "I don't have a terribly awful singing voice. It just happens that it's not terribly nice either." Lips curve into a grin at Auralia, and she bobs her head quickly while nibbling at her spiderclaws. "Yep. The dragons blocked all the paths off."
Jachin rolls his eyes at Auralia. "you just don't appreciate a fine voice, is all." is noted loftily, before he winks at Kelli "He sings, and I'll attest to it." So there. Suriath's whuffling brings another laugh, and he waves a hand "Hey now...singing's one thing. Hot dragon breath is another."
Niare shakes her head slightly at Kelli, grinning as Jachin seems to decide not to take her up on her offer.
Auralia paddles her feet in the water, turning about so that she faces much of the group. "Un unmusical group we have here, then," she notes, overhearing Kayjay and Meleri, "For I've no more talent than a wet rag in that area." Bright smile is returned to Eireann, "Jolly good, too. At least they didn't make *you* sing, although you did just say that it wouldn't be so bad." Still grinning, she rolls her eyes at Jachin, "Maybe so. I never did claim musical interest."
Meleri shakes her head at Rea. "Not a note, or at least not one that would sound good." She giggles. "I think I frustrated our harper growing up."
Kelli looks out toward Auralia. "I suppose I still owe your dragon some music." he calls to her. "Maybe once we're done eating here, she an I can hide somewhere that no one'll have to hear my singing, and we can make some music together." He's in high spirits, this evening. Buttered spiderclaw is devoured with much relish, the trickles of herb butter running into his beard. Mmm. Messy food
Kellah grins as she listens to the others. "This is interesting." She says as she continues to listen. She munches on her spiderclaws.
Kayjay sighs wistfully. "Any more of that spiderclaw around? I'd love some. I missed dinner what with me going home to help my father." She settles down on the sand and grins at Meleri. "OH, I can carry a tune, just can't harmonize."
Jachin grins back at Niare, confused. "Did I miss something?" he's somewhat apologetic. He was distracted by food, whuffling, dripping bouncing Kayjay's. "If so, could you repeat it? I'd hate to miss anything you said to me, Niare." He licks a finger to emphasize the fact..or maybe just to get rid of more butter. "Oh, do have some, Kayjay. It's delicious."
Niare shakes her head. "Nothing important," she says. "I just said Lisanth might be persuaded to 'sing' if you asked her, but you don't want to do that," she tells Jachin.
Meleri smiles. "I never sing above a whisper anyway." She giggles at Kayjay. "Maybe we should just leave the sining for Jachin."
Auralia sniffs the air, as if only now noticing the aromas of the food in the vicinity, laughing towards Kelli. "I suppose you do. Oh, no, no. I couldn't drag you away from your friends. Far better to do it here. Perhaps we should have a singalong, just to get everyone involved." Iesath emits a sultry warble, as if agreeing entirely with this, fanning out upon the sand. "In fact, Iesath thinks that singing is a definitely good idea."
A'den sets his plate on the sand again and leans forward, propping his elbow on his knee. His non-buttery hand rests lightly on Niare's shoulder and he merely listens to the other conversations for a few moments.
Eireann cracks open her last spiderclaw, nibbling delicately at the meat until it's all gone. "Now /that/ was nice. Whose idea was it to have a spiderclaw feast anyway?" She peers around the group, then promptly flops backwards, stretching out on the sand. "I just hope that whoever ends up singing can carry a tune -ok-."
Suriath croons softly, trying to suit his warble to Iesath's. He curls his tail slightly, wrapping around his lifemate the best he can as she digs into some spiderclaws.
Jachin looks interested despite Niare's words "She sings too? What have you people been hiding from us Harpers? A veritable chorus of voices?" He shakes his head "A sad thing, when Harper Hall doesn't know about this valuable commodity." He finishes off a tuber, then starts in on another spiderclaw. "Oh...speaking of which. Singing, that is. I got a note from Masterharper Selene. She wanted me to sing at that flower festival in a few days...would it be possible for me to go?"
Kelli rumbles to Eireann, "Depends on the song." Truth be told, he's not too comfortable about this 'singing' thing. Well, not unless it's something like a bawdy song or a drinking song. "What do you think?" he says, asking the group in general, apparently. Or maybe the dragon, herself. You never know what sort of wise answers a dragon could come up with.
Kayjay looks over Jachin's way. "Flower festival?"
Ticalai> Maralita ohs. "Kelli.. He's.. sort of a... friend." the last is said as if she's unsure the word is being used correctly.
Kellah smiles and continues to munch on her spiderclaws as she listens to the others talk. "Flower festival?"
Niare glances up at A'den to smile at him for a moment, then turns and blinks at Jachin. "Our flower festival? Or is someone else having one as well?"
Eireann turns her head to look over at Kelli--still letting herself stretch out on the sand. Who knows, this might be one of the only times she gets to relax. She suggests a rather bawdy song to Kelli then, managing to cover up a grin with her hand. Then, "The flower festival that Maralita organized?"
Nausika walks over from the Coastal Path.
Jachin overhears Kelli "He may not be able to sing, but I know for a fact he can dance." Now, that is. "You should have him show you. I'll play for that, if you like." Once Niare is finished with him, that is. The greenrider gets a smile. "Yeah..that flower festival." He frowns. "She made it sound like it wasn't at the Weyr. Is it?" He looks around. "Sorry...I've been doing menial chores for a sevenday...I don't get around and about to catch these things anymore."
Auralia rests herself down upon the sand, tilting her head towards Jachin, "I imagine it would be fine, so long as you have gotten permission. Probably a good idea to make sure all the important-types know." Kelli is given a giggle, "Oh, c'mon. It'll be fun! Why don't you and--" she tilts her head about, "Meleri? Is that it? I'm hopeless with names--why don't you two sing together? Surely that'll make it easier?"
Ticalai> Imara watches the two new Candidate for awhile, and seeing that they're getting along well, she turns and heads back out to the meadow.
Niare nods to Jachin. "If it's ours you mean, then I think it's here in our weyrhall and I'm sure you can get out of chores to play for it," she assures the candidate.
Kayjay chuckles. "Fancy you not knowing what is going on at your own weyr. I though Harper types knew things before anyone else did. I swear Aislynn knows before I do, when I am about to sneeze, and she lives on the other side of the weyr."
Nausika wanders along the beach, looking, well, a little wide-eyed and dreamy. Her hair is loose, unusual for her, and she has a few small blue flowers tucked into it. "Flower festival?" she says, catching a bit of Jachin's comment. "Oh, it's here, as far as I know. At least, I wasn't planning on hauling the food for it anywhere...."
In the northern sky, Yishenth soars to the Northern Weyrs clearing below.
Meleri shakes her head looking frightened. "I don't sing." She says softer than normal.
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath shifts within the sand, noting, voice sultry, << I should like them to sing. Wouldn't you? >>
Kelli eyes Auralia, then eyes Jachin even further. "I'll sing." he agrees with a nod. "I can handle singing. But I sure can't dance more than... three steps? Four, maybe?" One jig lesson, and Jachin thinks he acn dance? Oy! "I think I'll stick with the singing." He looks over to Meleri. "Neither do I." he chuckles to her. "But I'm going to."
Kayjay smiles over at Meleri. "Not even if you were singing with someone else to back you up, more or less?" She looks up at Suriath and gazes around the assorted group. "Suriath does love hearing music."
Jachin nods to Niare, looking relieved. "Anytime I can get out of chores to sing, it works for me. I'll send a note back to her, then, and let her know. She must have figured since I was here, I should do my part." He finishes off a third spiderclaw, and sighs "I think that I'm almost sated." Almost. There's still that second buttery tuber, after all. And the fourth spiderclaw. Aurelia gets a nod as well, before he grins at Kelli "If you won't sing with Meli, dance with her. You've got talent for that, despite your length."
Dragon> Suriath bespoke Iesath with << I do think it would be rather nice. The moons, the stars, the beach, you and me, and being serenaded by them? I like the idea. All we need is a tasty snack of wherry. I could go fetch us one? >>
Meleri shakes her head at Kayjay. "Not in front of all these people." She gives Jachin a dirty look.
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath greets this notion with a chortle of sultry fascination--<< You're so cute, Suriath, although I ate yesterday. >> Mindful of her presence, she adds, << But they must sing. >>
"I can sing." This is from Nausika, though anyone who's ever heard her sing will know that this is more a threat than a promise. And anyone who hasn't heard her sing should ferverntly count their blessings. She edges toward the food, passing Kelli on the way. "Hey, Kelli, how are you?" she asks as she peers over her options. Hmm.
Eireann stretches one arm above her head, then reaches across to try and nudge Meleri in the arm. "Oh go on, I'll sing with you both if you want. And my voice isn't exactly anything to be proud of." She slips Mel a wink, then looks around. "Can Kelli dance?"
Auralia gives Meleri a long dance--"Please? Come on. For Iesath. And Suriath. Evidently, still the somewhat loving couple. We won't laugh." Grinning, the greenrider stretches out her legs, "Come on, why don't you all sing, and dance? Candidates, the lot of you, and others, especially Meleri. Dance, sing, whatever. Perform! It's just the night for it."
Suriath croons once again as if to encourage the rest to sing. He taps the very end of his tail as if in beat to an unheard song.
Kelli answers her, "Quite well, thank you. Particularly now that I'm partially fed." Only partially, because he hasn't finished his next spiderclaw. "I know about three steps." he returns to Eireann. "I'd prefer to try singing. Anyone know any good drinking songs?" A candidate singing drinking songs? How odd is this? "I don't know anything else, really." His eyes sparkle in amusement. "Come on, Meleri. If the dragons insist, who are we to deny them? Especially Iesath."
A'den looks thoughtful, head propped on hand, elbow propped on knee. "I know the one about ears- but it's not really a drinking song."
Meleri stands up blushing and smiles at Kelli. "I guess." She says softly.
Niare sits back, keeping an eye on Jachin's plate so as not to forget needing to talk to him. She replies to Kelli, "I know them all, and you'll never catch me singing one."
Kelli chuckles at Meleri. "That's the way! So, do you want to start? Or maybe A'den can teach us this 'ears' one?" He looks over at Nausika. "Well, why not join in, then? Seems as though there's going to be plenty of singing going on here." Feline-wauling, anyone?
"I do!" Eireann calls out in a sing-song voice to Kelli--obviously meaning about the 'good drinking songs' part as she suddenly embarks on a long chorus full of high notes, low notes, and everything in between. The tune is easily recognisable, as are the lyrics she bellows out. A blush then, and she grins. "Told you I wasn't too great at singing." A glance goes up to Mel as her friend gets up to dance, and she tries to urge everyone to start clapping along a beat.
"Excellent!" chirps Auralia, digging her bare toes into the sand. "Oh, I'm sure you can think of something between the lot of you. Sing!" For one who doesn't really like music, the Weyrsecond is perfectly enthusiastic. "Oh, well done, Eireann," she notes, as the girl sings. Iesath, warbling brightly, raises her head to watch, whuffling towards Suriath.
Jachin finishes off his meal, licking fingers clean and searching with one hand for his gitar. "Whoever sings, I'll play for them. What's it to be?" He even manages to catch up with Eireann, blending with her voice as best as possible. "Shells..nothing wrong with your lungs." is noted when she stops. "I thought it sounded fine." Loud, but fine. "Who's next?"
Ticalai> Erin's brows rise, and abruptly she shifts her attention from her unpacking over to Maralita. "No," she says, perhaps a bit defensively. "I'm not particularly talkative. But I'm not ignoring you, either, if that's what you're worried about."
Nausika scoops up a spiderclaw and plops down on the sand. "Good," she says. And then she joins in the cajoling. "Fantastic, Meleri! I'm sure you'll do just fine." She digs a morself of meat out of a spiderclaw and pops it in her mouth, industriously licking her fingers. Feline-wauling ain't nothing compared to what she'll wind up doing, though.
Kelli gives a rolling, bellowing song as he stands up. "Oh, I know that one!" And indeed, starting a good, solid *thump* with his own foot, he starts singing the next lines to it. He's admittedly not as bad as he makes himself out to be... though he certainly does waver off-tune in places, and his voice holds itself in a heavy bass line. No dancing, but he's standing and stomping to the beat. It's a proper drinking song. Gotta get a proper stamp!
Jachin follows right along, laughing at Kelli's stomping of the rhythm, adding a nice harmony from the gitar to that deep bass.
Niare shifts uncomfortably and looks down at the sand.
Meleri looks around still blushing not quite sure what to do.
Kellah smiles as she listens, sitting down on the sand to watch, a warm smile on her face. "Nice song." She says.
Kayjay chuckles as the singing begins and positively falls over laughing as Suriath continues his impromptu conducting with his tail. The big brown peers over at those who -aren't- singing and nudges his lifemate who in turn exhorts, between giggles, for everyone to participate. "Oh, Meleri, surely you can at least clap your hnds, or stomp your feet?"
Nausika joins in quite happily, with great enthusiasm. And that's about all she has -- enthusiasm. Which isn't an entirely good thing, because it makes her loud. 'Cause, see, Nausika can't sing. And by 'can't sing', I mean cannot sing. She's off tune. She's off key. She changes key repeatedly and apparently without realizing it. Her voice, though normally a rather pleasant alto, goes from flat to sharp without ever hitting the median in between. Face it. She's *bad*.
Eireann starts clapping her hand together--still urging the other to join in with her. "Mel, just do a little twirl and let Kelli lead you around?" she suggests with a look to Kelli, "You should teach her how." She's in fine spirits this evening--and even goes as far as to start singing along with the others again, using those lilting notes from before, only this time she's even /louder/. Ohmy. Everyone cover their ears.
Jachin looks over at the brown "Tell him to join in whenever he likes" is noted to Kayjay, even as he keeps up with Kelli - despite laughing more often than not at the lyrics. NOthing like a good drinking song, right? Eyes take in the varying blushes and uncomfortable shifting, and his grin widens. No, /nothing/ like a good drinking song.
Iesath gives Suriath a long look--peering towards his brownness with a whuffle of surprise. Men. So strangely peculiar. The green instead fans out her wings, being of distance far enough away to let her do so with ease, which allows the wind to whistle about them, almost a percussion beat ensuing. "Beautiful music, eh?"
Meleri claps her hand on the beat still blushing. "I've never heard this song." She admits quitely.
A'den leans forward still further, so he's almost bent double on his rock perch, putting his head close to Niare's. He mutters to Niare, "... Or... just..."
Kayjay grins at Jachin. "He'd rather lead than sing tonight, to be honest, I think he couldn't add a note to this, whatever, this might be." She chuckles at Meleri. "Well, the chorus is easy enough."
Kelli's singing is interrupted by laughter at Nausika's 'singing', nodding over at her. He's heard the drunk sing this song before. So it can't be all that bad, really. "Come on, Meleri. If she's singing, surely you can, too. You can't be that bad." Well, he didn't mean that _quite_ how it sounded, but you get the idea. "And what abuot you riders, too?" he asks to the other folk, before picking up on the music again, resuming the singing and enthusiastic foot-tappnig. Er, thumping.
Niare turns her head slightly as A'den speaks to her. She mutters to A'den, "... just... like..."
Meleri sings the chorus very quietly almost to whisper level. Her voice isn't too bad, though no one would describe it as good unless they were tonedeaf.
Auralia beams proudly at Meleri as the girl finally begins to sing, Iesath rewarding the progress with a warble of delight, before silenting in order to 'listen' to the song. Aura crosses her arms, "I'm not singing. No, this is entertainment. For Iesath's sake. She can hear *me* any time."
Nausika pauses her singing (Bless Faranth!) to shout encouragement to Meleri. "Come on!" she says. "It's fun!" And it must be fun for her, 'cause she sure's hell doesn't sing because she's requested to do so. She doesn't take offense at what Kelli said -- but she doesn't stop, either. She's sitting to eat, so she can't stamp very well, but she manages, pounding one bare foot against the sand in time. She can keep time. Well, kind of. She's close, anyway. "That's it! See? Isn't it fun?"
Jachin grins at Kayjay "Have him lead away, then" Is called, before he nods approvingly at Iesath's input - and yes, even Nausika's attempts - after all, a drinking song is only made better by its loudness - being on key isn't necessary. He just keeps the rhythm going with the gitar, waving Kelli on "Keep going! A lovely duet!"
Eireann starts thumping her feet in time to the singing, all the while clapping her hands together--though she alternates between the clapping and slapping her knees. "That's it!" she calls up to Meleri, a bright grin winding across her lips. A glance goes to Auralia, and she grins. "You should sing. Almost everyone else is." Well, that might be an exaggeration, but it works for her.
A'den nods a little. He mutters to Niare, "... back... anyone would sing,... evenings. They're loud, and... have... be talented... sing... for... voices.' That... adds,... a..."
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath is amused at all of this, and notes, << There's something in the *music* that appeals very much. Beyond you, of course. >>
Ticalai> "Just down at the lake," Erin offers, her smile faltering. "Imara asked us to help her oil Yish-- Yishenth?" Inflection makes the dragon's name a tentative question. "But I was here with Nafai, visiting from Smithcraft Hall." As if her pride in her old knot had gone unnoticed.
Suriath takes Jachin at his word and taps his tail even stronger, which unfortunately does raise up a bit of sand. He croons encouragingly to the quieter ones and with a flick of his tail, draws the more *ahem* boisterous ones to soften their voice. He seems more interested in the quieter voices. "He says they offer more delicacy." Kayjay grins as she watches. "I never realized Suriath was paying attention at the harper lessons back at my parents cothold."
"Not me," insists Auralia, "And it will stay that way. I can't even stay in tune, I promise. I break windows." Exageration is her greatest gift, and one she uses happily. "Iesath, dearie, not so loud," she adds, mainly in Iesath's direction, as she adds a petulant note to the music. "He's a con-con--er, lover of music, then, Kayjay."
Dragon> Suriath bespoke Iesath with << I must agree with you. I do believe there is much to be discovered in this group. Take that little one over there. She needs confidence. >>
Kelli even goes so far as to scoop up one of the wineskins filled with juice, taking a big hit at the 'scripted' moment of the song. He'd do it with wine, but... he's sorta not allowed. Wiping his mouth, he tosses it toward Meleri with a grin. "Pass it around. Can't have a proper drinking song if you're not drinking." he tells her, pausing just long enough to clear his mouth and wait for her and the others to get their 'hit' of drink.
Kellah giggles softly as she watches. She looks to Kayjay. "He certainly seems to enjoy it." She says, then goes back to listening.
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath projects an image of Meleri--<< Her? Yes. She--has promise. She could be very good. With confidence. With--yes. >> She muses over this, moonlit tones taking depth. << Encouragement is very good. >>
Niare glances over at the singers. She mutters to A'den, "My... used... them.... Very drunk."
Meleri laughs softly and takes a drink of the juice before tossing it over to Rea. She goes back to singing very quietly on the parts that she knows.
*Snatch* Eireann grabs the juice-filled wineskin from the air as Meleri tosses it, and tips her head back to take a long swig. "Ahh.. nothing like some good juice." she giggles merrily before offering the 'skin along to the next person--which appears to be Kayjay. "Juice." she feels the need to explain, just in case they think the candidates are drinking wine.
A'den winces and nods. He rubs his still slightly buttery hand on his shorts to get rid of the last traces, then drapes both arms over Niare's shoulders as he leans forward again. He mutters to Niare, "We... if..."
Suriath looks towards Iesath and then back to the quieter section of the "orchestra and choir". The brown croons encouragingly to Meleri and Kellah then resumes his tapping.
Dragon> Suriath bespoke Iesath with << Yes! Her! >> He becomes more intent. << I think she will do, she just has to stand up. >>
Jachin is enjoying himself immensely - it doesn't matter what the music sounds like...it's the enjoyment that people get out of it, right? Dragons, people..whoever wants to join just makes it better. He leans forward to hear Meleri, though, fingers continuing to add rhythm, though with all the din, it's not a sure thing that it can be heard.
Suriath looks towards Iesath and then back to the quieter section of the "orchestra and choir". The brown croons encouragingly to Meleri and Kellah then resumes his tapping. <repose>
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath's mind flutters with bright verdancy. << Wonderful! I *knew* it. She will stand. Aura-- >>
Niare leans back against A'den, looking over at the others again. She mutters to A'den, "... did... to talk to Jachin . I suppose... wait, though."
Dragon> Suriath bespoke Iesath with << Yes, get your lifemate to ask. My lifemate is too busy helping me with the concert. >>
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath assents, delighted. << Good. All is well. >>
Meleri sings just a bit louder, maybe loud enough for those close by to hear. She smiles over at Suriath though she's still blushing.
Nausika breaks windows, but that ain't stopping her. She catches the skin when it reaches her and takes a sip, and then pulls a face. "Juice?" she says. "Bah. I'm not a candidate." But there doesn't seem to be any wine in evidence, so she takes a hearty swig and corks it, and tosses off again. Nausika likes juice well enough. Once the juice is swallowed, she continues to add her voice to the din.
Iesath extends her neck towards the quieter section of the musical group, nudging past Suriath's to take a long glance. A whuffle follows, and then a rumble, neck retracting. "Iesa? Oh. Oh!" She gives a glance over to Meleri, stepping carefully about the group. "Er, can I interrupt, a moment? I don't mean to break up the beautiful--" cough cough, "music, but--Meleri, would you stand for Tiarnath and Brielth's clutch? Iesath, and, it seems, Suriath, find you suitable."
Kelli lets his stomp and sing, both, die down as he clasps his hands together at that, eyes rolling upwards. "_Another_ one? Farenth!" He chuckles warmly at the sky. "This has been quite the day for finding them!"
A'den smiles a little and whispers something very quietly into Niare's ear.
Suriath shows his enthuisaistic agreement by standing up, which sends his lifemate sprawling. Kayjay struggles to her feet and nods as well. "I agree. The dragons are very insistent.
Kellah giggles. "It sure seems like it!" She says. "Seems alot of peoplegot searched today." She grins.
Eireann is about to raises her voice again to continue singing--then promptly falls silent as she overhears Kayjay. She barely contains an excited squeak for her friend--but keeps quiet until she replies.
Meleri looks over at the two dragons her eyes wide. "Really?" She looks almost confused then smiles. "Yes, yes I would."
Jachin lets his notes die away, laughing "Well..congratulations, Meleri. Join the crowd...it's getting to be that way in the barracks." He looks at the riders "Sure there's room for us all in there?" He strums a short fanfare of sound for the newely searched girl as she gives an affirmative response.
"Search wings," admits Auralia, "Brought in a few more earlier, too. Iesath refuses to go out with the intention of doing so, and in a group, but I heard they did pretty well." Beaming, the Weyrsecond straightens, "Wonderful, Meleri! It's the music that did it. Iesath has developed an--obsession?"
Kayjay warns. 'Cover your ears folks, he's about to blow." And blow he does. Suriath sits on his back haunches and lets out a roaring bass bugle of triumph then goes back to tapping his tail.
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath's pleasure turns to distaste. << Men! >> She snorts. << So loud. No sense of dignity. Hmph. >> She's ignoring you. Hah.
Dragon> Iesath senses that Suriath croons, broken hearted. << But baby. You're the best. >>
Nausika pauses singing again to laugh. "Congratulations, Meleri! Looks like singing did *you* some good, too!" The singing having appeared to pause, she takes the opportunity to polish off her spiderclaw and lick her fingers again. Yum.
Iesath> Suriath senses that Iesath says nothing. Fickle woman.
Jachin almost drops his gitar as he tries to get his ears covered - he knows all about Suriath's 'blowing.' He doesn't quite make it in time, but does manage to miss most of the blast.
Suriath looks Iesath's way and whirls soulful eyes her direction. Candidates forgotten for a moment.
A'den lifts one hand to rub at his ear nearest to Suriath, grinning faintly.
Kelli look at Auralia, a grin over his face. "DOes this mean I've got someone I need to share singing with?" His ears aer ringing, having not managed to filter all the dragon-bellow out. Ouch. And he thought _he_ didn't sing well?
Ticalai> Erin's smile turns vaguely sad, and she turns to lay back on her cot with fingers laced behind her head. "I come from Karachi Hold, originally," she says. "So... I guess I've seen a fair bit of the continent."
Iesath sniffs distaste at Suriath's outburst, and at his soulful eyes, and Aura covers her ears a moment, stepping back. "I suppose so, Kelli," she agrees, giggling. "You'll have to console her. She's discovered that Suriath is just as--male as all the others." This, evidently, amuses her. "Meleri. Do you want to move in now, and return here afterwards, or wait a little while?"
Eireann bounces up to her feet, dashing across the sand to offer Meleri a quick squeeze-hug. "Congradulations! Oooh, this is so exciting. Try and find a cot near mine." This is all said in a rush, before she spins on her heel and starts trudging up the beach. "I better go, I have some things to do before bed!" she calls in explanation of her quick departure.
Meleri smiles over at Nausika. "Thank you." She looks over at Aura. "Can I move now?" She grins at Rea. "I will."
Eireann grins and flicks a wave over her shoulder at Meleri before continueing her dash up the beach.
Eireann walks toward the Coastal Path.
Eireann has left.
Kellah smiles. "Congrats Meleri!" She says, a warm smile on her face. "Lots of new people in the barracks."
Kelli doesn't exactly get it, but he nods and chuckles at Auralia, looking over at Iesath. "So, how would I do that?" he asks her, reaching down to sieze his plate up. Music can wait. He's worked up a good, empty stomach, what with all that singing!
Niare winces at that sound, unable to get her ears up in time.
Kayjay sighs and looks across at Auralia. "Now you know what I have to put up with him, Sahath, C'ley, Karel and Nikelo all in the same space."
"Certainly," assents Aura, giving her lifemate a glance. "She'd like to fly you over, if you're willing?" She's not *really* trying to avoid Suriath, honest. "Don't ask. It's probably better if you do it blind," she assures Kelli, holding back further laughter. "We'll be back, most likely." She attempts to look serious to Kayjay for a moment, "Hard, I'm sure."
Jachin settles back once Suriath is finished trying to deafen everyone, resettling his gitar and strumming it lightly. "So....anyone else want to try out their voice tonight, now that Kelli has given up his career for a meal?" he calls out, teasing. "And Suriath seems involved elsewhere?" He saw those soulful eyes, indeed.
Kayjay giggles softly. "Oh terrible."
Suriath whuffles Jachin and flicks the end of his tail, sending a well aimed bit of sand his direction.
Meleri nods her head to Aura and smiles. "That sounds good."
You sense Iesath's delight as you come near, using her straps and helpful forelimb to swing upwards to her moss-patterned neckridges. Your right hand runs down her soft hide, exulting in her nearness, as she warbles softly to you.
Auralia offers down a hand, "Just climb up, Meleri. It's not hard. She's not *too* big." Big enough, though. "Use her straps, and her forelimb."
Meleri climbs up Iesath's side, using her straps carefuly to swing up to the higher neckridges, to perch between them behind you.
Dragon> Iesath touches your mind gently, noting << I was looked at by Meleri, Auralia. >>
Meleri climbs up. "I've done it a couple of time before." She says softly but excitedly.
Auralia tilts her head into a nod, "I wasn't sure. Excellent. You can strap yourself in no problem then, I'm sure?"
+*> Kelli is ready to offer Meleri a hand, but it appears that she's managed to get up AOK on her own. Ah, good! Sitting back down into the sand, he glances over at Jachin, sticking a spiderclaw leg between his lips and chewing on the meaty end, the shell-part protruding. "A man's got to eat!" he insists in a close-lipped rumble.
+*> Niare shakes her head. "Before you start, could I talk to you Jachin? It'll only take a bit."
Meleri nods her head and straps herself in fumbling just a touch but getting them secure.
+*> Jachin laughs, pulling his gitar out of the way "Hey now...Kayjay, tell your dragon that sand and musical instruments do /not/ mix." He grins. "If he wants it to play, he can't be getting it full of the stuff." He nods to Kelli "Definitely...between us, I'd say we do a good job of it, too." Niare's words, however, provide distraction, wariness mixing with his good humor "I'm yours to command..you sure I didn't do something?" Because he can't really remember...
+*> Nausika licks her fingers again. "Any tubers?" she asks hopefully. "Mmm, oh there they are. And butter." She slops said tubers and butter onto a plate and begins to eat, as neatly as one can with one's fingers.
Auralia turns her head back to watch Meleri, and, once satisfied, notes, "We're off, then. It's a horribly short trip, really." Iesath warbles from below, tenses, and then moves into the air.
You soar to the sky above.
You fly toward the sky further south.
You fly toward the open meadow below.
Meleri smiles. "It's a nice ride though." She says softly.
+*> Iesath comes to a backswinged landing amid the tall grasses of the meadow, burbling a high note of delight as she reaches solid ground once more. Aura turns, grinning, "Here we go. I'll show you about, and then, you can get your things. It is, isn't it? Lovely clear evening for it."
Your hand once again traces Iesath's smooth neckridges, as you slip down her side, guiding yourself with her straps and forelimb. Below, you touch her again, her soft whuff filled with adoration towards you.
Meleri slides down Iesath's side, using the offered foreleg and straps as a guide, finally reaching the ground with a light thud.
Meleri nods her head. "A very nice evening."
Auralia brushes sand off of her breeches, chuckling wryly, "I love Southern weather. Of course, where I come from it's hardly that much different, anyway, so it's all I've ever known. This way, Meleri."
You walk toward the Candidate Barracks.
Jalynia is sitting on her cot, brushing the dust from a day spent chasing down tunnelsnakes in the storerooms out of her hair. "Weyrsecond, ma'am," she says, nodding respectfully as Auralia comes in.
Meleri strides over from the Lakeside Meadow.
Auralia's face changes from pleasant, to horrified, to indignant, to downright nauseous within a moment--"Ugh, Jalynia. Must you? I'm quite sure you know my name, and ma'am is just--" She grimaces, turning her head as she waits for Meleri to arrive. As the girl does, she beams, "We've got a new candidate--see?" Happiness resumes it's position upon her face. Ye of changeable moods.
Meleri smiles over at Jaly and nods then looks over at Aura. "The weather is much like this where I'm from originally as well."
Jalynia shrugs fluidly, causing her loose hair to ripple with the motion. "I know your name, Auralia," she says, a hint of a smile playing about her lips. "But I would really rather not get in trouble for being disrespectful." Meleri gets a wide smile. "Welcome to the barracks, Meleri."
Auralia digs her hands into sandy pockets, noting, "For me, my name works well. I'm sure if you've got permission it's not travesty." Her head turns, "Where are you from, then, Meleri? I don't believe I know. Grab yourself a cot, too. Anywhere, as long as there aren't any things on it already."
Meleri finds the things that look like Rea's and takes an open cot beside hers. "I'll take this one?" She says softly. "I'm from Sadrid Hold."
Jalynia grins, running one hand through her hair, stopping occasionally to tug at a stubborn tangle or two. "All right then. If you insist," she says to Auralia, before grinning at Meleri. "Never been -there- either. There's all sorts of people from all sorts of places about nowadays."
Meleri nods her head. "It's along the coast line aways, in Southern's area."
"Looks fine, Meleri," agrees Aura, resting against the edge of the doorway thoughtfully. "Ah, Sadrid. Know it well, thanks to sweep riding. Nice people, there." She grins brightly at Jalynia's response, "Most excellent. It's bad enough having to be formal when I *have* to be, let alone having reminders when it's not necessary."
Jalynia chuckles quietly in response to Auralia. "You have no idea how much that means to me," she notes quietly, before nodding at Meleri. "One of these days I may have to find my way over there. I'm hearing about all these places I've never been."
Meleri nods her head. "It's a pretty place. You'd have to eat my mothers cooking while you were there."
Auralia's lips form a smile, and she tilts her head, "I think I do. Have some idea, that is. Perhaps only some." She crosses her arms in front of her, resting her head against the door frame. "We'll be fighting thread over there--perhaps we'll get you lot out for groundcrewing, although it's scarcely a real visit." A warble from outside catches her attention, "Er, excuse me. I'm needed, evidently. If you've got questions, Meleri, come and ask me, or any other riders, or staff. Or the candidate coordinators. The other candidates will help as they can, too."
Meleri nods her head to Auralia. "I will, and thank you." She sits down on the empty cot.
Jalynia's smile only widens at Auralia's commentary. "Perhaps you do," she agrees, more warmth than normal creeping into her voice. "Groundcrews. I have no objections so long as I don't get cooked." Her smile becomes a grin at some remembered incident. "I'll see you around later, I'm sure, Aura."
Auralia laughs, waving a hand as she removes herself through the doorway.
You walk over to the Lakeside Meadow.
