You walk over to the bustling Weyrhall.
Kayjay looks at her empty mug and stretches again, sitting up in her chair, then getting up to head to the meal table for a refill. She grins at Auralia. "Evening."
Baelen gives Kayjay a nod as he finishes his glass of wine, "I suppose that is how it goes, yes. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry to find someone new." He gives Auralia a nod as she arrives.
Auralia, with bare, muddy feet, skips into the weyrhall, riding jacket slung over one arm. "G'devening, Steward, Kayjay.." the list continues, the Wingsecond listing 'most everyone in the room, before heading to the serving table, just behind Kayjay. Here, she pours juice, and then turns towards the tables.
Kayjay grabs a plate and helps herself to a sweetroll and a cookie as she returns to her work station. She asks Auralia. "How goes yoru day?"
Work Station? Uhoh. Auralia follows Kayjay, pretty much, setting down mug and shrugging her shoulders with an aimeable grin on her face. "It goes well. A lovely day. And yours?"
Baelen stands up to get another glass of wine, even as the two women sit down at the table. Not that that means anything. It doesn't. Honest.
Kayjay shrugs. "Good enough. Just helping Cecily with going through some sweeps reports for her." She shrugs, peering at a hide in front of her. "Good thing you don't have to be good at writing to be a rider. Half the wing would be without a dragon, if so."
Auralia doesn't raise her brows at Baelen, she simply nods to herself, and takes a long swig of her juice, wiping the edge of the mug with one, dirty hand. "That's nice of you. I woulda thought that'd be more F'loran's job. Seems like I have to do it often enough." Woe is Auralia: her face looks glum a moment. "Oh yes. Silly really. Easy enough to teach."
Kayjay doesn't say anything but her look speaks much about F'loran's hide work. "Oh, I don't mind helping out.. really. I have a lot of empty nights anyhow."
Auralia coughs under her breath, slightly bemused, or one would think by the look on her face. "Poor Kayjay. You should do something -fun- with those nights." The Wingsecond pauses, adding, "You and Baelen weren't talking, were you? Did I interupt?"
Kayjay shrugs. "No, not really, Auralia, just work talk." She sighs, mournfully. "I can't think of anything fun to do, except spend time with Suriath of course." She frowns. "My mother says I am growing too old too young."
Baelen says, as he returns to the table, "I enjoy taking walks. And sitting by the lake. And reading, and writing...you know. Quiet things."
Auralia sets down her riding jacket in a rumpled heap, nodding her head at Baelen, "That kind of thing is good. You need a hobby, Kayjay. I think your mother's right." Auralia? She's getting young too old.
Kayjay hmms. "I run and I swim.. and work on straps." She sighs, wistfully. "I used to wrestle..."
Auralia yawns. Well, pretends to, anyway. She covers her hand with her mouth, and sinks into her seat. "Boring. Boring, boring, boring. You need to..." A pause, and she leans in, "Import purple and yellow plums. Secretly."
Baelen nods his head firmly as Auralia backs up his recommendations. Of course they're right. They're his ideas. He blinks at this second suggestion, though. And, being the steward, manages a disturbed frown, "And just what would that do?"
Kayjay giggles. "Umm I think I will pass on the plums."
Auralia oops. That wasn't something she was supposed to say, huh? "Er...It would bring in plums?" Blush. Blush blush.
Baelen says, stiffly, "We have plenty of plums that come in from more...traditional channels, actually."
Auralia's eyes glance at the door. Longingly. However, she sits up a bit straighter, and hazards, "But you don't bring in the orangey ones?"
Kayjay ponders. "Orange plums?" She pushes her hide work away from her. "I don't think I have ever seen an orange plum before."
Baelen shrugs nonchalantly, "I suppose we could, if there were actually a demand for them." He is, after all, the best steward that ever lived. Oh, yeah.
Auralia has. So's D'thyn. But that's neither here nor there. "Oh, they're very nice. Sweet." Her eyes light up at Baelen, and she beams, "That'd be great! D'thyn knows where to get them. He's been..." That's right, Auralia, bring in the bronzerider. "Helping."
Kayjay scratches her head. "Helping? Helping how?"
Baelen non-chalantly pulls out a pen and paper, giving Auralia a critical look, "And where, exactly, have you been picking them up?"
Baelen er, pen and hide, or something.
Auralia um. That door is looking more and more appetis--er, useful. "From the drop-off places, of course." Where else? "He's just helping. You know."
Baelen frowns slowly, "Drop off places? This...worries me. What if you pick up some strange sort of vtol by accident, and take it back here with you, and it affects the vegetables in our garden?"
Kayjay shakes her head. "I don't think I have heard of such a thing? Drop off places? There ae some things about weyr life I don't know."
Auralia looks more and more worried. Out of place. Even nervous. "Oh, it's very safe. I mean..D'thyn has -connections-, so it's all good stuff. Nothing bad. I promise." She nods towards Kayjay, "You know, just places where they drop it all, and I pick it up. To deal with."
Baelen nods slowly at Auralia, making a small note on his hide, "Very well. I'll just speak to D'thyn about it, then." Setting his quill down firmly, he turns his attention back on Auralia. "So. How are you?"
Tyrhuil walks over from the Western Courtyard.
Auralia ohno. Her face falls further. "Don't do that. It's just me. Please?" She cocks her head, looking endearingly towards Baelen, "C'mon?" Her hands drop, and she adds, "Oh, I'm good. Pretty good. And yourself?"
Tyrhuil walks in carefully, holding her walking stick in front of her. She hears the sound of a friendly voice and smiles.
Baelen raises an eyebrow at Auralia, "I'm not going to get anyone in trouble, rider. I just need to make certain that the Weyr isn't set upon by...unfortunate circumstances."
Auralia appears to be slightly comforted, but that's about the extent of it. "Oh. Good." No smile, more of a half-hearted frown. She turns, bobbing her head to Tyrhuil, for all that she can't be seen.
Baelen has a little half-hearted frown on his face, too...but, then again, when does he not? "I'm fine, actually. I have the evening free, for the most part. I was thinking of taking a walk on the lake, or reading..." You know. Like he mentioned earlier.
Auralia ohs. She nods her head. She hazards, thoughtfuly, "That -is- kinda boring, too, though. I mean, doesn't your job involve reading?" Reading. Blech. Well, almost. "And walking. That's just boring. You need a hobby, too."
Baelen shakes his head, "No...not reading as much as going over reports. There's a difference. And there's nothing wrong with walking. It keeps me in shape. What did you have in mind, anyway?"
Auralia ohs, stretching out the word. "Weelllll." That one is stretched, too. "You could go visiting. Or meet someone. Or do something silly like that." Anything would be more interesting.
Kayjay hmms. "Go visiting? That is an idea. Where?"
Tyrhuil sits down at a table and yawns. She rubs her eyes and places her walking stick against the table's edge.
Baelen takes a sip of his wine, places the glass on the table, and folds his arms across his chest. "Yes. Well. I don't really do...silly."
<Southern Weyr> Kayjay snickers at Baelen.
<Southern Weyr> Auralia giggles.
"You don't?" @set Auralia=stunned and amazed. "Why not?" Aghast. Totally aghast. "Hmm. Yes, we should go visiting. Dunno where though, Kayjay."
Kayjay giggles. "I never even see you smile no matter be silly."
Baelen shoots Kayjay a dark glance before turning back to Auralia, "Well, it's unprofessional. I have a job to do, you know, and I take that...seriously." That's the understatement of the pass.
Auralia's nose wrinkles, scrunching up into a little ball. "Oh. That's not fun. I mean, you don't have to work all the time. I have a job, too, but that doesn't mean I don't have fun. Methinks we need to teach you something about fun."
Kayjay snorts in her tea. "Good luck, Auralia."
Auralia raises her brows at Kayjay, "-Anyone- can learn to have fun."
Tyrhuil grins at the conversation going on around her. "Everyone knows how ta have fun..." she says quietly.
Kayjay talks about Baelen as if he isn't there. "Some people are beyond help. I don't think he has the imagination to do so."
Baelen raises her eyebrow at Auralia, following along with the pattern, or whatnot. "I have fun. I relax."
Auralia would be quite scared if she realized Baelen was copying her every move, but she hasn't. So she's not. "What do you do that's fun? Read? Walk?" She snorts.
Auralia belatedly adds to Kayjay, "You don't? Well, we can try, right?"
Kayjay looks at Baelen, studying him carefully. "I.. I don't know. It -would- be a challenge, indeed."
"Aren't you up for a challenge? I am. Much better than concentrating on real work." Auralia nods her head, arms crossed, and juice forgotten. "We could do it. And it'd give you a hobby."
Baelen's eyes narrow slightly as he looks from Auralia to Kayjay. Finally, "Perhaps some other time? I have to be present for the arrival of a tithe train early tomorrow morning, so I'd best get some rest."
Auralia phts. Which would constitute a scowl, too. "Oh come on. Backing out? Just like a man."
Kayjay hmms, looking thoughtful. "There -is- that, you are right." She quickly turns to Baelen and says sweetly. "They say a good belly laugh is as good as a night's sleep. When was the last time you let 'er rip?"
Tyrhuil doesn't bother with her walking stick and goes to grab some juice from the buffet table. Accidentally, though, she bumps into a bronze rider. "Sorry!" she says hastily, though the man just shakes his head, walking away.
Baelen looks from Kayjay to Auralia, his frown deepening. Finally, "If you're going to laugh, you need to have something to laugh _at_. Am I right?"
Auralia blinks. "No."
Kayjay shakes her head. "Laughing WITH someone or others is much more fun that laughing AT them."
Baelen shrugs, "Fine. Laugh with, or laugh at. Still, there isn't anything to laugh about right now."
"There's always something to laugh about," claims Auralia, with a bright grin.
Tyrhuil, face red, manages to grab a cup, pour some juice, and get back to her seat without tripping or stumbling into an unseen person. Very embarrassed, mind you. Very.
Kayjay raises her voice slightly. "Good evening Tyrhuil."
Baelen drains his glass of wine, leaving the empty vessel on the table, "Is there, really? Like what?"
Tyrhuil turns her head toward the sound of Kayjay's voice. "Uh, hi, Kayjay." She swallows a little, escaping to the sanctuary of her juice cup.
Auralia has to think about that one for a moment. "Life," she decides, with a grin. "It's kinda funny. And people, too. Even when they're not doing something. Sometimes," she adds, "I laugh just for the sake of laughing." As if for effect, she bursts into giggles. Oh dear. "Oh, hello, Tyrhuil."
Tyrhuil smiles at Auralia, still looking embarrassed. "Hi,"
Baelen raises an eyebrow at Auralia, and pauses before replying, "I...just don't really find anything that funny right now. I _have_ laughed. I do laugh. I just don't feel like it right now."
Auralia ohs, eyes looking almost mournful. "That's very sad, Baelen. Very, very sad. Because you should always laugh. It's good for you."
Baelen sniffs softly. "Yes...well. There are plenty of other things that are good for you, too. And I do those."
Kayjay sighs. "But laughter, enjoying life, good friends, hugs, joy.. all these are part of life."
"Like walking." Auralia bobs her head, looking wise. Or, at least, attempting to. "Kayjay's right. You have to be all rounded. I bet you've never even had a close friend. Or a girl. Or anything."
Baelen frowns at that, obviously taking great offense. I mean, look at him. Of course he's..."Of course I've had a girl. Many times. And I have enough friends - I'm not the type of person that goes out trying to find new ones all the time, though. I'm comfortable with those I have."
Kayjay hmms and asks genuinely. "Not to be snoopy, but do you have any friends around here?"
Auralia shrugs, looking entirely unbothered, if her cheerful smile is anything to go by. "Oh well. Whatever makes you happy. I still think you should laugh."
Baelen regards Kayjay levelly for a minute before responding, simply, "Yes."
Kayjay nods. "Good. Glad to hear it."
Auralia takes a sip of her juice, "That's a start, anyway. Who?"
<Southern Weyr> Kayjay says, "Geesh these two are unbelievably rude aren't
they ?"
<Southern Weyr> Niare says, "Which two?"
Baelen ticks a few off on his fingers, "Maynard, Heural, Kessaria...although we mainly just sleep together." He sniffs lightly, "I really should get some sleep. If you'll both excuse me?"
<Southern Weyr> Kayjay says, "KJ and Aura .. grilling baelen to name names
as far as if he has friends."
<Southern Weyr> Auralia beams.
<Southern Weyr> Baelen sniffs. Yeah. I'm so devastated!
Auralia snorts, "Them." Right. Whatever. She sighs, waggling one hand, "Go sleep, if you must."
Kayjay slowly nods her head. "Alright, then."
Tyrhuil stands up, finishing off her cup of juice and nods to all of the people within the room. "Later," she says quietly, if anyone's paying attention. She grabs her walking stick and makes to leave.
Baelen nods to Tyrhuil - even though she probably doesn't notice - on his way out of the hall.
Baelen walks toward the Courtyard.
